The artwork on the Idaho ½ Goldback honours Sacagawea, an Agaidika Shoshone woman born near Lemhi Pass in what is now Idaho. She is depicted as the virtue Pietas, or Devotion. In 1805, Sacagawea travelled with the Lewis and Clark expedition to Lemhi Pass, serving as an interpreter and guide — carrying her infant son, Jean Baptiste Charbonneau, the entire way.

She wears a traditional Shoshone dress, beaded belt, and tool bag. An Appaloosa mare and her foal stand in the background, mirroring Sacagawea's devotion to her child. The Bitterroot Mountains rise behind Lolo Creek as it winds through the valley. Idaho's state symbols — white pine, huckleberries, and mountain bluebirds — surround the scene. Inscribed along the bottom is the quotation: "Everything I do is for my people."
