The artwork

The virtue is Patientia, patience, drawn from Idaho's long relationship with its land and water. The scene is true to central Idaho, where people and wildlife occupy the same ground without much fuss.

Worked into the scene is the scripture "Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently."

The 50 holds 1/20 of a troy ounce of 24-carat gold, fifty times the 1 Goldback and half the content of the 100. It is a display note first: the sort of thing that goes into a frame or the front sleeve of an album rather than being handled often, and a serious gift for someone who fishes or knows the Sawtooths.

Two things to be honest about. The premium over the gold price is real at every denomination, and the larger notes narrow it without ever making a Goldback competitive with a Britannia, a Sovereign or a bar on gold per pound spent.
